In Forbes’ big list of PR trends that are slated for 2017, I’m given a mention. My advice is to constantly work on audience building. I do this via social platforms, and having 500,000+ followers is certainly a bonus! This helps me figure out what kind of content my audience wants and likes. Whenever my content is published, I get a slew of little “boosts” with shares and more. This also lets publications know that my audience is engaged and wants more.

There’s some more great advice in this Forbes list to help you get a head start on 2017. For example, niche and trade sites are gaining traction. If you’ve steered away from them in favor of the bigger sites, think again. This goes double if you’re also in a niche industry because you need to go where your audience is.

Make certain your distribution is more diverse in your social platforms, too. Consider this distribution more like you would your own finances and avoid having all your eggs in one basket. Diversification has always been a savvy maneuver in financial marketplaces, but it’s getting a higher priority now in the social media arena—especially since distribution options are so vast!
