Most of the time when you hear about data breaches, they could have been easily prevented. Data security should be a big priority for you and/or your business, which is why Smallbiz Technology reached out to pros in the industry, including myself, to find out the best and easiest tips for maximizing security. Surprisingly, implementing security policies is what I most often recommend—because it’s something so few businesses do!

You should always aim for a two-factor method so that if one is breached, you have another in place. Criminals are largely opportunists. If a hack is too difficult, they’ll likely move on to the next victim. Taking care of the basics, like making sure your passwords are tough, might be all it takes to prevent a data breach. The faster you implement solid policies, the better off you’ll be.

Other tips include not sharing passwords (everyone should have their own) and not sharing accounts. It’s usually because a shortcut makes work a little less troublesome that we put our data security at risk. A smidge more effort can make all the difference!
