Many studies have shown that happy employees are productive employees. Creating contagious positivity in the workspace should be a priority for every business owner, and it’s a lot easier to do than you think. Black Enterprise asked me to put together my list of best positivity tips, and I was happy to oblige—especially considering how easily you can fall into the negativity trap in business. All types of energy is contagious, whether positive or negative. Keep in mind that a positive space means more motivation and collaboration (and of course productivity!).

My first tip is to pay it forward, because that creates a snowball effect. If something good happens to you, you have two options. You can return the favor or pass it on to the next person. (You can also do both). I got a lot of help from those more experienced than me starting out, and I was quick to pay it forward when success came my way. The more you help the people behind you, the better off you’ll all be.

Patience is a virtue that should be prioritized in business. Getting irritable and overwhelmed is common, and a lot of stress is natural in business. However, when you lose your patience, a negative response is passed on to those around you. Practice calming techniques and identify those that work best for you.
