In an article by the Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) for The Network Journal, I was asked to provide a life lesson I learned while in business school. I felt that connections I made while there were far more valuable than the book knowledge offered. When I attended Stanford Business School, the time I spent meeting other like-minded individuals there was very valuable when I went out and launched my business. I had these connections that I made that I called on to help me with getting things done for my startup. It’s very true that it’s about who you know, not what you know.
The article also offered many other great life lessons that many of my colleagues learned, including the value of teamwork, personal experiences, strategic differentiation, communication, growth and confidence. For work and life, these lessons far surpassed the theory provided in the classroom. It just goes to show you that business school is less about the classroom and more about the people around you. It’s important to be open and willing to listen and observe those attending business school with you.
