It’s something we all know but so many people struggle with: Bad grammar. Or poor grammar, if you will. Entrepreneur just released John Boitnott’s telling blog on the how and why to ditch bad grammar, and I was happy to contribute. The biggest reason I told John everyone should put an end to bad grammar is simply because it sends the wrong message. With written communication, you don’t get the benefits of all those non-verbal cues (in addition to verbal cues!). This means you have to be very careful.

Poor grammar makes you look unprofessional, lazy, uneducated, and depending on the type of poor grammar it can even totally change what you’re trying to say. What happens if you write to an investor you’re meeting for lunch, “I’m God” instead of “I’m good” (autocorrect is happy to capitalize that for you!) or “See you son” instead of “see you soon”?

We should all prioritize ending poor grammar, as it can cost you thousands of dollars and spiral into even more mistakes. However, spelling errors and typos are just part of the problem—and you need more than spellcheck to catch them.
