I attend a lot of networking events.  Literally, about 4-5 a week.  Every person I talk to I try and help.  This means that I connect with a lot of people.  I’ve found the best time to do this is right after the event that night.  This is the best time to follow up with people as it’s fresh on their mind and they’ll add you to all their social networks.

I am the guy that emails you a personal message the night I get home from a business event (especially the people I really want to connect with). Be that guy. There are some who might find that annoying, but I typically always get what I want. I also have stronger connections with people, as they always remember me. A week later nobody remembers who you are.
