HuffPost Business asked me and seven other small business owners what our best questions were to garner more employee feedback. These surveys are critical to business success, but you need to be sure you’re asking the right questions. For me, it’s “How would you save the company?” I ask employees what they would do if the company was sinking and we only had enough funding for one more month. This forces them to get creative and tells you how much they really care about the company.

There are more outstanding questions that I just might use for my own future surveys! For example, ask your workers if they would recommend your company to a friend. With anonymity, this can give you great insight into what your employees really think and how you can improve. Also ask if employees think mistakes are encouraged. They should feel empowered to be wrong.

I also love the questions “Are you happy?” and “What could the company be doing better?” While I usually steer clear of yes/no responses, the happiness one sticks with you. If your employees aren’t happy, find out why and what you can do to correct it.
