The Personal Branding blog just posted about 15 great ways to build your own brand online, and I’m featured talking about the importance of guest blogging. Seek out the publications in your industry or niche, and offer to blog. For free. This is one time when offering complimentary services really pays off. If you can get a “gig” writing on a weekly or monthly basis, that’s even better. It helps establish you as an expert, control your digital footprint, and of course network. Plus, it helps give your business credibility.

There are many other ways to brand yourself, like starting on small social media sites like Instagram. However, some experts warn to not overdo it. You don’t want to become spam yourself an inundate people with your presence (it may have worked for the Kardashians, but it won’t work for everyone).

Seek out media opportunities where you can, especially locally. Big fish/small pond syndrome actually works in the beginning, and it helps you get your confidence up. However, quickly pick out which platforms you’d really love to be a part of and set some goals. Cross-channel marketing of yourself is ideal, but only when well executed.
